Press Release: International Women’s Day Art Fair

One Art Space is proud to present the International Women’s Day Art Fair in honor of International Women’s Day, celebrated each year on March 8th.

International Women’s Day first began in New York City in 1911 and has historically been utilized to call attention to the many hardships and oppressions faced by women throughout the world. The Suffragettes founded International Women’s Day to unite and empower women in their fight for equality and to this day, it continues to inspire individuals to persevere in the face of adversity, celebrate powerful women, and organize direct action to further our progress as a society towards the abolishment of gender inequality.

We support the modern day Suffragettes of the International Women’s Day Campaign in promoting this holiday and their ten core values of justice, dignity, hope, equality, collaboration, tenacity, appreciation, respect, empathy, and forgiveness.

This year, we celebrate by presenting an exhibition in honor of the monumental achievements of women throughout history. The International Women’s Day Art Fair features a diverse, international collection of talented, female-identifying artists of varying ages. Join us on Wednesday, March 8th from 6-9pm to celebrate with art, wine, and live music.

A Prayer For Compassion (Guan Yin), oil 28x22"

"Painting is both a composed intention and a revelation, and always a reflection of spirit.  I select subjects that I feel connected to, and the painting becomes my teacher, my mirror.  A Prayer for Compassion is artwork that also pays homage to the feminine deity, Guan Yin.  Known by dozens of names, and many more histories, Guan Yin is the goddess of mercy, empathy and compassion. Her truths are our truths.  She is deeply woven into the fabric of us.  Her presence is the warmth of our hearts.  Our longing for compassion motivates us, so in return, we illuminate her figure, just as a gentle ray of hope shines a little light upon us all.

John Pototschnik, Texas artist, will be exhibiting scenes from Europe and New England in a traditional style. His ability to capture atmosphere, light and distance in scenery is captivating. He’ll draw you into his world making you feel like you’re there.

“Loved and Observed” co-curated by Diana Corvelle & Manu Saluja

  • Hersh Fine Art

Hersh Fine Art is pleased to announce the upcoming Loved and Observed, a group exhibition of portraits by twenty-three artists co-curated by Diana Corvelle and Manu Saluja. In the sprawling genre of female portrait artists, the one place to find commonality is in the choice of subject itself. Whether her subject is a family member, friend, or the artist herself, that person has been singled out among many. They have been conferred a special status by virtue of the time and energy given over to observing and documenting their distinct presence. Artists Corvelle and Saluja bring together a dynamic collection of classically trained women whose approach to portraiture ranges from delicate to bold, traditional to nonconformist.
Portrait artists offer a rare opportunity to see someone as they themselves do. We become familiar with perfect strangers. We are allowed into intimate spaces we might never have seen. We are treated to narratives that make us question the very notion of individuality. We are invited to love and observe.

Loved and Observed will be on view from June 21 through August 12, 2014 at Hersh Fine Art, located at 14A Glen Street in Glen Cove, NY. An opening will be held on Saturday, June 28 from 6-8pm. For more information, please contact Steve Forster at info@hershfineart.com.

Participating artists: Elizabeth Adams-Jones, Erin Anderson, Juliette Aristides, Julie Elizabeth Brady, Aleah Chapin, Diana Corvelle, Michelle Doll, Alia El-Bermani, Alexandra Evans, Shauna Finn, Nanette Fluhr, Nanci France-Vaz, Kristy Gordon, Clarity Haynes, Leah Lopez, Gaetanne Lavoie, Lauren Amalia Redding, Kay Ruane, Manu Saluja, Holly Ann Scoggins, Rabecca Signoriello, Emily Slapin and Maria Teicher.

SCNY Thumb-Box Exhibition & Sale

  • Salmagundi Club

Lower Gallery, November 18, 2013 - January 03, 2014

At this time of year when many New Yorkers are preparing to deck the halls with holiday tidings, savvy art buyers throughout the city are preparing to deck their halls, too - but with ART !

The Salmagundi Club unveils its Annual Thumb-Box Exhibition and Sale on Monday, November 18th. One of the best kept shopping secrets of New York City, SCNY's Thumb-Box Show continues to enthrall and entice art lovers and collectors with numerous small jewels of American Art. Priced to sell, this pageant of original works by contemporary artists features only "small" works; works no larger than 108 square inches.  The galleries are open daily, Monday through Friday 4-9pm and Saturdays and Sundays 1-5pm.

Adding to the allure of this year's sale, SCNY will be hosting this six week event in its more intimate Lower Gallery space during the complete renovation of its Upper Gallery (due to re-open in 2014).

Celebrations coinciding with the exhibition will include an artists' reception on Thursday, December 5th, 7:30pm - 9:30pm and a delicious Holiday Brunch on December 15th from 11am - 4pm (at $25 an ideal way to take a break from an afternoon of shopping). Reservations for the brunch are required and can be made by calling 212.255.7740.
